One thing we see many brides sleep on is how to have healthy wedding hair. They book a bomb stylist for the big day but, leading up to it, the wedding planning and stress takes a toll on their hair and they aren’t doing anything to counteract it. Why do your photographers care? Well, healthy hair shows up big time in images, and we want you to look and feel your best in photos. That Blake Lively gloss, shine, and bounce will look INCREDIBLE if you take a few simple steps to prep it leading up to the big day.
We interviewed salon owner and celebrity hairstylist (Sarah’s personal stylist as well), Heather Andrews, about her top tips for brides and grooms. She didn’t hold back with the hair education, and we are here for it! Dive into 7 simple tips that will leave your hair bouncy, happy, and style-ready for your wedding day.
1. SHOWER FILTER
Buy a shower filter! Filters help keep your hair from becoming dull and make your locks soft, all while preventing discoloration and mineral buildup by reducing chlorine, hydrogen sulfide, scale and iron oxide (rust water). Here’s a link to my favorite one! If you can’t get yourself a filter, I recommend asking for hard water treatments from your stylist frequently.
2. QUALITY
Ask your stylist to recommend a shampoo and conditioner that would be right for your hair/ scalp needs. Everyone is different! Drugstore bought product often causes build-up and makes the hair have a dull film and is harder to style.
3. VITAMINS
Take Evening Primrose Oil. EPO is a vitamin that helps to reduce stress and balance hormones. Planning a wedding can be stressful and cause hair to shed. EPO contains Gamma Linolenic Acid which stimulates hair growth, reduces inflammation, and keeps hair healthy. I recommend taking one capsule with every meal! 4. OILS
Get oily. Ew, but hear me out! The oils we produce ourselves happen to be the best conditioning treatments. Try going an extra couple of days before washing your hair. At night, be sure to use a boar bristle flat brush and brush the oils from your scalp into your middle and ends for soft, conditioned hair. 5. SILK PILLOWCASE
Use a silk pillowcase! Silk helps to keep the hair cuticle closed giving you frizz-free, light-reflecting hair-from the moment you wake up! Here’s one for $25 on Amazon. 6. PRACTICE
Once that hair is prepped, do a bridal trial 6-8 weeks ahead! This will give you enough time to find another stylist in case you aren’t happy with your trial results. The last thing you want is to be unhappy with your wedding day hair after working so hard to keep it healthy.
7. LUSH LOCKS
Know your hair type and what it can do, ahead of your wedding day. Chat with your stylist about the look you want, and don’t be afraid to buy extensions! Extensions are great for intricate up-do styles and as a way to add volume. Ask your stylist which method they think would work best for your hair type and have them color match for you. Thanks Heather! You’d better believe your photographers over here are implementing all of this too. Heather sees clients at her salon Rise in Ojai and is also booking wedding and event clients for 2020.
