What are the reasons to do a first look?
It’s not just a question, but a full-on debate. Since first looks have picked up steam in recent years, couples have asked our studio what we think, what other couples do, if anyone’s ever regretted it, or if it’s the best decision they made about their day.
There’s no tried-and-true answer because every couple is so different, but there are some solid perks to pouncing on each other a little early.
Calm the Nerves.
At the last minute, nerves can be so overwhelming. You want to savor the moment, but then you’re walking down the aisle processing the magnitude in front of everyone you love–and that can be a lot. A first look takes the edge off, so you can relax and be completely present as you walk down the aisle.
More Magic.
Walking down the aisle is mega-magical no matter what. A private setting for that first look can actually amplify the omg of the day because you get to have that moment for yourselves, by yourselves, with yourselves. You don’t have to be aware of other people–you can just let the emotions flow.
Take Time.
The day is short enough as it is, so any way you can add more time together into your wedding day is a win. A first look can give you hours of extra time together to catch your breath before it all begins. It also gives you more time after your ceremony to get to two things you will really want at that point: cocktails and guests.
Keep it Fresh.
Let’s be real: Everything from your flowers to your face are going to look their freshest at the start of your wedding day, so let’s get it all in front of the camera. Whether it’s just photos of the two of you or a few family formals, everyone’s looking good when things kick-off.
Cut the Overwhelm.
When your photos are spread out over the day and not all clumped together in a strict amount of time post-ceremony, chances of better photos and happier people go up. It just takes the stress and overwhelm out of making sure we hit every shot at one time.
Finally Celebrate!
When they announce you as a couple, you’re going to want to start celebrating. Right away. With couples, family, and bridal party photos already in the bag, you’ll get to go straight from married to mingling.
For many of our couples, these are solid reasons to do a first look. Whether the moment is for your eyes only or for everyone to see, the magic will be palpable–we promise.
