Can you imagine living on a houseboat together? That’s exactly what Kat + Micah are doing! Because of that, the Santa Barbara harbor was the perfect spot for their engagement photos! Surrounded by the gentle lapping of the water, birds crying in the distance, and the harbor bustle in the background they’ve made a lovely home on their boat and it makes us want to move right in. They seem like the perfect seafaring couple, although they admitted they had yet to take the boat out. Apparently, you can’t just pull up your anchor and head out, it involves quite a bit of work. Who knew? I didn’t!
Kat + Micah completely transformed the boat space into a tiny home, making it feel incredibly cozy. (Kat also has an incredible eye for design, and everything she touches looks magical.) One of our favorite parts of the boat was the bar shelf they fashioned in their tiny dining nook. It made us feel right at home and it was easy to forget you weren’t on land, as long as you didn’t mind the under 10 foot ceilings. Because they naturally spend most of their time on the deck of the boat, soaking in the sea air, we shot out there as well. The golden sunlight bounced off the water, making for the most beautiful, photogenic sunlight in these shots! As the sun sank lower, the golden glow saturated our photos, making the whole scene feel otherworldly.
We always love off the beaten path engagement photo locations, just like this Santa Barbara Harbor spot, especially if they hold significance to you or you enjoy an adventure. If we shoot somewhere you love, you’ll love your photos more! It’s just that simple. We loved capturing this so much and it would be an absolutely perfect location for engagement photos so if you (or someone you know!) owns a boat, let’s do this!
