When Erica reached out about their Silverlake Engagement Photos, we jumped for joy. If you’re not already familiar with her work, she’s an incredible illustrator and designer over at Be a Heart and her work brightens up my Instagram feed on the daily. We’ve been internet friends for a few years, and connecting in person was absolutely delightful and long overdue! After much deliberation, Erica + Paul chose their Echo Park neighborhood as the location for their engagement photos. During our planning process, we talked briefly about traveling out to a beautiful mountaintop but Erica + Paul decided it felt more like them to shoot in and around their neighborhood. There’s nothing sweeter than capturing your love in a place where you’ve already made lasting memories together, and this neighborhood fit their personalities and vibe as a couple perfectly. Erica + Paul also deliberated about wearing super glam outfits, but they ultimately decided to play it casual because they felt more comfortable. This made perfect sense, considering our plan was to explore their neighborhood! The benefit of shooting close to Erica’s home was that they could easily swing back for a quick outfit change halfway through our shoot. It doesn’t get easier than that, right? We started off at their favorite coffee joint, where they frequently go out for a date, and then meandered down to their local park to soak in the warm spring afternoon. Walking by the duck pond, we stumbled across a churro stand that was SO delicious–Erica couldn’t help but grab their card to chat with them about catering churros at their wedding (can every engagement session involve finding the churros of your dreams)? We spent such a lovely afternoon together, and this session inspires us to encourage more of our clients to shoot in a familiar and comfortable spot. Mountaintops are wonderful, but if you feel the most at home in your own backyard consider making it your engagement session location.
