Ruby + Alex got engaged while glamping in Yucca Valley, outside of Joshua Tree National Park so it made perfect sense for us to head right back there for their engagement photos. The surrounding landscape is so jaw-droppingly beautiful. The best thing about shooting on dirt/sand (or light-colored gravel) is that no matter what time of day you shoot, it’s absolutely beautiful light–it bounces warm, clean light onto the subject’s skin. It’s such yummy light, you just want to eat it with a spoon.
Because it was shockingly cold during our shoot, we ended up running in and out of their tent to keep warm during our session. Ruby + Alex are totally down for an adventure and didn’t mind one bit! It helped that they brought some pretty fantastic outfits we could layer up. (Check out Ruby’s coat! The bee’s knees!) After shooting for a little while around the tent, we drove further out into the desert because we couldn’t get enough of the landscape.
Once we were sufficiently frozen and had grabbed SO many great shots, we drove back to the tent and warmed up. Alex + Ruby brought their absolute favorite game, cribbage, so of course we had to grab some photos of that! After the game devolved into a card throwing match, we ended the shoot jumping on the bed which made for AMAZING photos.
We’re dying to shoot another engagement session like this–it was so much fun! There’s nothing quite like picking a far-out destination for your engagement photos, it ups the sense of adventure, it’s such a blast to explore with a photographer by your side, and you create unforgettable memories. This was truly a one of a kind experience. So if any of you are up for some more Yucca Valley engagement photos, holla at us!
